Making real money from GTA 6: every path, against the rules.
A viral clip says GTA 6 will make more millionaires than any game before it, and not only through content. Here is each money path, what Rockstar's own documents say about it, and whether it is open now.
On 19 November GTA VI is a single-player console game. The live money economy is GTA V roleplay: 6,486 servers with players and 144,731 people online when we measured.

Run a roleplay server
The proven money in GTA roleplay is servers: players back the city they love through Tebex, the only payment route FiveM allows. At our snapshot 6,486 FiveM servers had at least one player and 326 had 100 or more, so the field is crowded and top-heavy.
What the licence bans you from selling: in-game money for real money, loot boxes and anything chance-based, ways to cash out, Rockstar-made items, and anything to do with crypto. Your site must name the operator, give an email and say the server is not approved, sponsored or endorsed by Rockstar Games.
"The use of any other platform or payment provider is prohibited and is a violation of the Platform License Agreement."

On GTA 6 this path is not open yet: see the next section.

Run a GTA 6 server
GTA VI launches as a single-player console game. FiveM only runs on PC, and Rockstar's mod rules forbid porting a game to a platform it was not released on. Roleplay on GTA VI needs a PC version and Rockstar authorising GTA VI on its Creator Platform, and neither has been announced.
"Grand Theft Auto VI is a single player experience, coming November 19 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S."

Any site listing "GTA 6 servers" or selling "GTA 6 hosting" today is selling a placeholder.

Sell scripts, maps, vehicles and clothing
Rockstar's Creator Platform has its own store for server content, the Cfx Marketplace, opened on 12 January 2026. Listing is free, and neither Tebex nor Cfx takes extra commission. Selling other people's server content through your own marketplace is banned, and outside the Creator Platform all GTA modding must be non-commercial.
"Unless permitted via Rockstar Games’ official Creator Platform, all modding must be strictly non-commercial."

Get paid by Rockstar for what you create
The comparison everyone reaches for is Roblox and Fortnite, and the numbers are real but concentrated. Roblox paid creators US$1.5 billion in 2025, yet its median Developer Exchange creator received about US$1,500 in the year to June 2026. Fortnite pays 40% of eligible item shop revenue into a pool; in 2024 about 1,728 of roughly 70,000 paid creators made US$10,000 or more. Rockstar is hiring for its Creator Platform, but its live job ad names GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, and no payout model for GTA VI has been announced.
"over 42,000 are part of our DevEx program, with the median creator receiving approximately $1,500 USD during the 12 months ended June 30, 2026."

The clip's "top 10 will make $650 million a year" is a prediction, not an announcement.
- 05Open, crowded
Stream and post GTA content
The path the clip says to look past. It is open, and it is the most crowded: on every creator platform we looked at, a small group at the top takes most of the money (see path 04). If you monetise footage, read Rockstar's policy on posting its material first.

Brand-sponsored or "official" brand servers
A server run for or with a brand, and sponsorship or advertising inside a server, are both on the licence's banned list.
"operating a Custom Server by, on behalf of, or in an ongoing commercial association with, a third-party brand (e.g. the “official” server of a brand or other sponsor)"

Crypto, NFT and play-to-earn servers
Two big streamers have talked up an "everything pro-crypto" GTA 6 server. The licence and the mod guidelines both ban it.
"We do not permit the use or promotion of cryptocurrency or crypto assets"

Selling in-game money, loot boxes or accounts with it
Selling in-game currency for real money, and any chance-based purchase, are banned for servers. Rockstar also keeps the right to stop any server's monetisation "for any reason in our sole discretion".

Sell services to server owners
Hosting, design, moderation tools, discovery. These sit beside the game rather than inside it, which in a gold rush is usually where the steady money is. Scripts and other server content you sell still go through Rockstar's platform. It is also where RP Compass sits. One warning: hosting sold as "GTA 6 ready" before server files exist is a placeholder.
